Unknown 40mm case

Who knows this Lorenz Karlsruhe shell case that I can't identify.
Caliber = 40mm
Length = 171mm
Diameter of rim = 54mm

I am pretty sure this is a very old Krupp 4 cm mountain gun, dimensions are correct. I suspect this is one of the first Lorenz cases made for Krupp and I estimate this to be from 1878 or a few years later.

I thought I have exactly the same with the same question but my example has a rim diameter of 57 mm and a screwed primmer. Made by Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe in 1900.

37bis: Can you check rim diameter again?

Lorenz sold the factory in 1889 but it's possible the trademark Lorenz remained for some time after.

There were Krupp guns in 4 cm, but I never found anything detailed about it, other than photos. The famous Ballonabwehrkanone was also called 4 cm but the calibers were sometimes rounded.

The L/40cartridges are looking longer than the L/30 on the photos

Alpini, is your case a 4 cm case? I do not know a 4 cm case with 57 mm rim. I do know a DWM 47x82R56 case with shell case number 142A.

I checked my references (when writing I quickly looked on my phone) and I think the topic started measured wrong. I also know it as a rim diameter of 57 mm.

The rim diameter is 57mm and not 54mm. Sorry.
