CAN ANYONE IDENTIFY THIS SLIDING TOP CAN,IT MIGHT BE A CAN FOR A BELT OF AMMUNITION ! THE HIGHT IS 240mm, THE BROAD SIDES IS 163mm AND THE NARROW SIDES ARE 90mm,AS YOU CAN SEE,THE TOP SLIDES BACK,THERE IS A HANDLE AT THE TOP,THE 2 LUGS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BROAD SIDE ARE NUTS,THE BOLT HEADS OF THESE NUTS ARE CONCEALED ON THE INSIDE TO PREVENT SNARLING I ASSUME,THERE ARE NO MARKINGS ANYWHERE ON THIS OBJECT,ANY IDEAS GUYS.

Could it be an ammo can as mounted to a gun? Having the lugs on the outside of the box for attachment and a drain slot in the bottom. Either that maybe or for tools etc. ?

When I saw the slot in the bottom of the can I wondered if it was a cash box from a gas or electric meter?

To my taste it would be absolutely too large to collect coins or tokens in a phone/gas/eleicticity meter. Rather something else - not necessarily any military item.
