found this in a navy ammo scrapyard clean up years ago,anybody got any idea what its for?its made of brass and has broad arrow

G'day Dan,

Looks like a fore end for a rifle.
Annoyingly! i can't find any pics of rifle with anything like that fitted,though it does look vaguely familiar,especially the curved cutout top/bottom.
