Hello,

it would be nice to know what this brass plug was used for. With 31,5 mm diameter and 14 t.p.i. the thread size it is slightly larger than the thread of a bristish No. I artillery primer. Country of usage is unknown but it must be releated to WW1 ordnance.

Regards, Alpini

It comes from a place where ammunition was dismantled, several were found. So I don't think so.

Years later I can answer my own question. These are transport plugs for German WW1 Carbonit aircraft bombs which were inserted instead of the fuze.

Hi Alpini
In a word, it is an advance in knowledge when you answer the same question yourself after many years.
It certainly means that you read and think a lot about it :)
If it continues like this, there will be a section here: ask a question and answer it yourself :)
A little fun won't hurt and I hope you take it as a joke ...
You certainly have years for it.

Maybe someone else is able to identify them now...

In this case it wasn't reading but visiting a private collection in Italy where I have seen those plugs installed on several of the bombs.

I guess they were still made in peace time because they were made from brass.

The state regulates and controls us: what you collect and records what you own and decides what you can and cannot own ... and you still have to pay the state for it. I envy people who grew up in freedom and in a country where the state does not control your life ... I am in years and I know that I will not live to be free anymore. And it is sad to wait for something that will not come and if it does, you will just leave the country where you were born ...
