Unknown Brass Plug

Does anyone recognise what this is (or was)?

Not sure if it was subsequently milled out in the middle.

Markings are:

No.11 JHR
crows foot; PII/N and an inspectors stamp of UN or DN.

Thread at the back is a double thread with dis of 2 inches.

Front is 2 1/4 inch dia.

Thanks

Looks like an ordinary travel plug to go in the 2" fuze hole. All the ones I have seen have had the middle recessed as yours.

Thank you Sir - Whoever had it before had it mounted in a wooden block hence I had assumed it had some relevance to them.

Can you confirm what ordnance it was used in ?
Thanks

Brian

Looks like there is a letter "N" stamped on the rim, so possibly any Naval shell that had a 2" diameter fuze hole. Some of the plugs I have seen for Naval shells are much longer, presumably to fit HE shells that have been filled with a deep cavity at the top to take fuzes with long gaine/exploder systems. As your plug is not deep, presumably it would not be used for that type of shell.
One of our ex-RN members could probably give you more info.
Roger.
