I have this as German, but I don't really know. It has Z dr 33 etched on the cutaway portion (probably done by the museum), but I am not sure if that is correct.

Any ideas?

Hallo Joe,
thank you for posting these 3 fotos together. i have seen single pictures without any explanations before. Zdr. in german is short for Zuender=Fuze, but I do not know a Fuze 33. The outside shape of above fuze is identical to the Rheinmetall A.Z. C 10 mechanical bomb fuze. Also the middle section is the same as in the C 10. The lower housing in the C 10 was occupied by the pyrotechnical delay element with its powder channels. In the above section this can not be identified really. I only see a massive, shaped brass element. The main difference between the above fuze and the C 10 are the Air (?) inlet and outlet holes. The brown, holed. round plate in the top may be an impeller that may drive the gear. I suppose that this is a Rheinmetall experimental bomb fuze that did not go into serial production.
regards,
Bellifortis.

I wouldn't have thought about a bomb fuze. I was thinking more a mortar fuze due to the air inlet holes and internal impellers which is common within some of the mortar fuzes I have seen.

Thanks for the insight ... with the pictures here maybe someone, someday will have an answer. And if not, they are here for people in case they run into one somewhere else.

Didn't we hit on this one in a thread before? Seems like it was a variation of the fuze for the SD-10 submunition? I'm in the office this morning so no access to anything, but it seems like maybe Ben had one?
