This question forwarded to me - no idea so if anyone recognizes it information would be appreciated. This item has been recovered from an old post blast site clearance area, tentative ID from the site is a 10.5cm Skoda Model 15. Question is, what is the glass item in the nose? All the info I have. Anyone seen this before?

I can not give You a positive ID nor confirm it as a Czech item, but I would be EXTREMELY careful with any ammunition containing glass inside.

Is it glass for sure? Or may be black Bakelite? Some german AP shells had half round Bakelite pieces as a "buffer" inside. And they may well be found broken at this point on a blast site because of the hardened steel nose. Maybe these buffers also exist made from glass.

Alpini, thanks for the info, I'll pass it on.

Nabob, thanks for the good intentions, but...… really?

Yea, I realize this is a little farfetched.
I think you know best what your guys brought back from Europe, twice.
Here it is just a question of a simple x-ray.
It is hard to make any decisions just on these two pics. I think our French and Belgian friends have much more experience in this topic.
Ultimately it is up to the guys on the range.
Glass inside a projectile is always strange. Once we had a bottle inside a shrapnel body in a foundation of a statue. There was a message to "future generations" inside.
I hope we get some more info of the results.
