Hi Joe,
The case appears to be from a Japanese 12.7cm 40 Caliber Dual Purpose Gun with a case length of 583 mm (-22.95").
From my limited documentation, a complete 12.7cm round is approx 38.25" in length and as approx. projectile comparison, the 12cm 45 Calier semi-fixed projectile was -15.875" in height, giving a 12.7cm case length of -22.375" +/- 0.5". Other members may have more accurate case & projectile measurements.
The case has a date stamp of Showa 11/17, which is November, 1942 with a Kure arsenal anchor stamp.
The primer has three kanji characters stamped on it & looks like a dummy one or a transit plug to be replace by the "real McCoy" later on.
I'll have a closer look at the Kanji Characters later - have to go a earn a buck to pay for some recent "bits" :tinysmile_twink_t2:
