Unknown rifle

I got this attic find in NJ for $20, woman just wanted it to be gone. The action is missing so it will never fire again but it still makes a nice wallhanger
But what is it?

Any markings on it, such as maker or Proof marks? And what calibre?

The markings are unreadable, metal is highly pitted (deteriorated). There are several serial numbers readable on metal parts and stock, but that's no help. I'll measure the muzzle when I get home from work.

I disassembled it but found nothing written besides more proof numbers.
