Does anyone know what this is and for what? It measures 2.2cm at the head and is 3.6cm in length.

It is marked No I (MK) II R^L. It will fit the top of the British WW1 rifle grenades (same thread) but this is probably a co-incidence. TIA

it is for ww1 and inter war 16prd HE bomb dropped by hand from aircraft
