unusual 2pounder naval case

Does anyone know anything about this case?
2 pounder naval case cut down to 5/12" total length,4 holes drilled evenly and neatly around case,
and all headstamp markings over stamped with Xs.
It seems purposeful to me,not trench art etc.
Tim.

Does no one have any suggestions or thoughts.
Has anyone seen any cases of any caliber overstamped like this?
Tim.

Reconditioning by manufacturor, holes to let see case is empty ! Demilitarising !

It could possibly be some sort of test or experimental depth charge launching cartridge.

The case does not carry the normal Naval marking "N" above the date so I don't think it is naval at all, The N after the 2pr is followed by a "o" with 11 underneath, perhaps a 2pr AT case, the normal way to cancel a mark is to use a straight line so seems slightly over the top to use X's. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble the cut the holes close to the base perhaps for a lamp.

Thanks for your thoughts.
It definitely started life as a 2pdr naval case, not A-TK.
The photos here show the A-TK case on the right next to it,this has a larger rim diameter also it has a small step in the rim.
Maybe someone was bored and messed with it.My hunch is that it was done for a specific purpose, maybe I'll never know
for sure.
Tim.
