US 40mm L/60 bare steel

Hello all,
I have what appears to be an original, not stripped and not repainted US 40mm L/60 projectile that is bare steel, and appears to have always been so. It has with it a red and white nose fuse. It is threaded for a tracer, and appears to be a SD model. I can find references for color codes, but what is a bare steel projectile indicative of? There seems to be a similar one to mine on the inert ord.net site, But what type it is isn’t mentioned. A picture of it is included. Any help and references would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Steve
