US and Aussie M30's

Fragman

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help identify the differences between an Australian and US M30. Whilst both types are found over here, they get so mixed and matched it’s hard to know what the original configuration was. There are obvious differences with the levers, with the US ones having a straight top fold and the Australian ones having a partial pin cover typical of later designed fuze systems. What was the correct thread size? Was it the typical size used with US made M205A2’s or was it the larger M215/M26A2 style? I’m guessing they both used RFX bodies. I am looking for an Australian made M205 lever dated 1966, please PM me if you help? Cheers

Hello Colin,

The US M30 Bodies for use with M205 A1/A2 Practice Fuzes had 9/16-12 NC Threads. All appear to be manufacturer marked RFX with various mold code marks.

The US M30 Type Bodies used for M52 / M66 Grenades (M217 Impact Type Fuze) had 5/8-11 NC Threads.

Stay safe,

Frank

Hi Frank.

Thanks for the information. I have M30 bodies with both sized fuze wells, so am wondering if the Aussies made a practice fuze with the 5/8-11 thread (I've never seen an M217 practice fuze over here). Cheers
