US fuze T316

It would seem to be something for use with US 175 mm, 8 inch (203 mm) and 280 mm nuclear projectiles. The classified standard designation of the fuze may be M542.

Similar fuzes with only two mechanical timers for the non-nuclear spotting variants of the above projectiles were, as far as I can tell, the M543 and M591 series.

The T316 is identical to the M543, except the latter has a modified breach block to take an M21A4 booster. Both were replaced by the XM591 Fuze.

M543 fuze is a triple banked time, mechanical fuze, the M543A1 was a double banked time, mechanical fuze. In UK usage both were for the 8" shell. The former for nuclear and the latter for practice.

p.s. "Flash, Spotting" is a euphemism
