As shown in US Army 'Study Guide - Chemical Warfare' August, 1944. Basically a fuel-type can full of HG Mustard with wires for attaching a charge which would then (i guess) be remotely detonated.

Anyone seen one of these before?

I have the empty can, unissued/unfilled, just wondering whether to sell/trade.

Yes, its the M1 mine, it contained 4.5kg of Mustard and was designed for area denial through persistant agent contamination.
It had 2 wires soldered to the back so it could be functioned with either a standard burster charge or improvised with det cord.

They aren't really that scarce. I see them for sale on Gunbroker. No one seems to buy them, and they don't seem to be worth a lot. I have a number of them that I've had since the 70's.

They were released from the military to property disposal offices back in the mid-80s or so. At that time you could pick up a case of them for just a few bucks. They have tapered off since, but are still seen at many of the Stateside shows.

The mines were never filled in storage, they were intended to be filled in the field from 1-ton containers.
