"VAEL" Maker's mark

Does the British cartridge case maker's mark "VAEL" stand for "Vickers Armstrong Engineering Limited"? I can't find any reference to a company with that exact name.

You are right Falcon !

Hi Falcon I am sure that you are correct as my 211 N Fuze is made by VAEL circa 1942 and at this time my Dad was designing the container to put them in for "Vickers Armstrong Engineering Limited".

I have seen other fuzes with VAEL stamped into them and believe it is fairly common to find items with those letters.

Looks like I am wrong again as I have just seen a post from TimG who states VAEL is Vickers Armstrong Elswick Limited. ?

Vael

Confirm TimG's identification, it is "Elswick".

Elswick is a part of Newcastle upon Tyne, and there is still a William Armstrong Drive along the side of the river.
