valdis or vadis ?

hi .ive noticed that a few places ive seen and read seem to be refering to vadis made mills grenades as valdis . . where has the L come from?
is it just an error as on the grenade itself its vadis. . just a thought:/

It's VADIS - the maker's monogram for Davis & Brocklesbury, Hulme, Manchester.

The ordnance field is typo-Heaven. How often is the word ordinance irritatingly and erroneously used instead of ordnance?
