Value of Complete Panther Tank HE Round for KwK 42

Greetings from the Great State of Texas. This is my first post on this site, and I have only been collecting German tank ammunition for a year. I have found a complete Panther tank high explosive projectile/casing combination for sale in the US. The gentleman is asking $1200. The condition is excellent, but it has been repainted. I have never paid this much for any tank round. 88mm complete rounds are going for $450 in the US. I can find almost no information on the value of this round on the web. There seem to be very few offered for sale compared to KwK 40's. May I request your input on whether this item is worth this much?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum.

If you could provide some pictures it would help. It seems a lot to ask for a repainted item.

Hi M8owner,Welcome to the forum, remember,,,paint hides sins,I am with StielGr.on this,it is a lot to ask for a repainted round,
Regards,
Don,

As always i'm amazed about the US prices. I think a good case will fetch 150 euro overhere. a projectile Sprg with remains of original paint, i ve seen them last week for about 100 euro.(150 euro with a KWK40 case) So a good price here, 250 euro give or take a bit because of the status.

The other thing is, KWK42 cases are not often seen on auctionsites or trades.

I have attached a few photos of the round in question. Thank you for your opinions. I am glad I asked.

I may well be wrong, but am i the only one that thinks this case is a complete fabrication. the font used for the stamps and the stamps themselves are all wrong to me. cant see any crimping marks in the neck etc.
Best regards Weasel.

Everything does look a bit perfect for something that had to be repainted that is 70 years old. If it isn't completely fake, it has a lot of body putty in it.

Fake colours. Looks like the circusclown version of the Kwk 42 cartridge.

I agree here that the stamping on the base of the case is definitely not original. Difficult to see the projectile from the picture, but if the case is not right ......

Hi M8,

Don't go near it ! It looks like it's been painted by someone who's done too much LCD. It is just plain wrong.

If Andy Warhol painted ordnance this would be the result !

Looks like the Pennywise of the rounds. I've seen these popping up in Germany and Poland lately. no collecters value. The stamping on the base is far from real too.

All that trouble to make a fake case and then they use the design number 6887 St.

I'm I missing the very obvious but should it not have been 6387 St?

Nice one StielGr....absolutely right....6387 it should be. Also the primer is wrong..... should be electric.
