vehical? plate from Bray dunes

Brought this 'well' shot at vehical? plate back from Bray dunes,Belgium a few years ago,never have found out what is off,but as you can see the 'bullet' holes are around .50" cal size(bullet not found with plate).

It is probably a post used to hold up a target for shooting practice. I've seen similar on an old WW1-WW2 range in England.
