Vent sealing tube

Can anyone provide information about the vent sealing tubes that came in these tins. I think I understand how they operated but have never seen one in the flesh.

Here are the details of the Vent Sealing Percussion Mark IV from the Treatise on Ammunition 1905.

A couple of variations of Vent Tube ,1 percussion ,1 electric.
Percussion one would be the type from the tin.
