I saw this stamped on an 18 pdr recently.
Who’s VSMW? A different VSM factory or a sub-contractor?
Thanks, Graeme

V.S.M.W. - The Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Company, Adderley Park, Birmingham.

It's a bit complex, but The Wolseley Sheep Shearing Machine Company of Australia relocated to the UK towards the end of the 19th century, one of their staff was Herbert Austin (of Austin Motor car fame). Sheep Shearing equipment is rather seasonal and Austin, looking for a product to manufacture all year around diversified into the motor car business but the board decided it wasn't they way to go, so sold the motor car part of the business to Vickers, Sons & Maxim in 1901.

Wow! Thanks Tim. Great story with some big players. So it's basically VSM - Wolseley. Now I gotta have this shell!
