Wanted machinist projectile drawing for 42cm M-Gert L/12 Dicke Bertha (Big Bertha)

I haven't seen many WWI era machinist's drawings of any projectiles, but I'm wondering if anyone has any drawings for the projectile/projectiles used in the 42cm M-Gert L/12 Dicke Bertha (Big Bertha)?
I have a cartridge case, and I'm entertaining the idea of laminating some wood together and turning a wooden replica projectile to go with my case. I would also like to paint it with the correct color code, so any info regarding the colors of the large German AP-HE WWI projos would also be a bonus.

The best I can offer is the technical drawings on pages 214 and 216 of the republished Notes On German Shells 1918, ISBN 1-847348-48-3 published by the Naval and Military Press in the UK. Page 214 provides. 1/20 drawing of the early shell, 1540mm long and page 216 details the updated version 1513mm long again at 1/20 scale. Probably insufficient detail for your task but at least a start!

Vasco Da Gama,

Thanks for the info. I don't have that book. Is there any chance you could scan those 2 pages or take a photo of it and PM me?

Thanks,

John

Some pics from what i'm guessing is the original source document for the 'Notes on German shells'.
This book is marked 'Proof' and has a few unfilled entries, and some pencil notes on some pages!.

Its makeable from that info especialy if you make the 2CRH as a template assuming you are going to hand turn it from wood or have you got a friendly cnc machinist?

I have a lathe that I was planning to use after laminating enough wood together to turn down. I was hoping the drawings would have the radius of ogive on them and the outer rotating band diameter. But they are still very good!

There was a thread on the IAA forums recently with a very interesting method of laminating and turning large projectiles, might be worth a search.
Some of the drawings do have radius and like info, but mainly the 70-150mm types.

kahu1,

I haven't been on the IAA forum. Would you have a hyperlink to an approximate location of the posting? Do they have it divided into projectiles, cases, etc.? It sounds like exactly what I would like to learn about.

kahu1,

That is a pretty cool thread. It provides a method of making the projo hollow and uses a lot less wood.

That guy is very talented. Hell, I ought to see if he wants to make the Bertha Bullet? I don't care what he says though, I would still paint it. I wonder if his lathe with turn 42cm? The one he shows in his photos isn't large enough.
