hi all, just purchased this lot in an auction, I was interested in the Red devil grenade, got the lot for $150AUD which I think was a good buy. Have been able to work out this material mostly seems to be Italian, 6 bullets are 6.5x52mm Carcano with head stamp SMI 929 for Societa metallurgia Italia 1929, the other 6 are head stamped BTM 36. Does anyone know who this manufacturer is?? Also I think the large round is 20x138mm, my guess is antiaircraft, does anyone know weapon type or recognize the head stamp BPD ,I assume 1940 manu and what might the colour bands mean? red, bronze, blue, gray?? Many thanks for any help,
Mark

The 2 cm round is for the Italian anti-aircraft gun as you suspected. BPD is "Bombrini, Parodi & Delfino , Rome". The projectile is also Italian, it belongs with this case. I am sure somebody else can tell you the meaning of the colors.

Hi Daryl, up in Newcastle. The auction house had no idea what any of the items were, called them smoke bombs, Italian grenades are something else,
cheers Mark

The color rings red-grey-blue indicate that this is a HE-shell with self destruction caused by tracer burning thru.
