What is this Bakelite disk for?

I only have the photos and no additional information. The two half are glued together.

A guess, but maybe a US-produced training item to represent a foreign mine; I don't recognise type (which may or may not be bakelite itself) it is supposed to depict though...
 
I had some x-ray taken and had it measured, not that I am any the wiser.

Challenger was a separate loading QF design.. the projectile and cart case were loaded separately to reduce the size of the round in the turret...

I THINK this may be the closing cup that went on the end of the cart case.. the raised cross being an identification mark.. This is going back in my memory a long way, so I may be wrong!
