Has anybody any idea what this is, it is again from the Cheshire Museum.

I think it either a mine or a grenade. It is definately not a Hawkins Grenade.

can you read some markings on your "thing" ?

I don't known why, but it look me not to be a ammunition !
Probably this can look.

It is the filter box from a WW1 Russian respirator, the mask is completely missing.
