What kind of shell is this?

Hello all, I picked this up many moons ago, and at the time it was an impulse purchase and the price was right, but the seller did not know much about it, and I never really bothered to find out it's true pedigree. At the time, the seller told me it was a "practice round" for Sherman tank (short) cannon, and that was good enough for me at the time, but looking at that ancient fuse, this might be a WWI era shell.
Does anybody have any clues as to what gon and time period it came from? The headstamp markings are pretty much all there was, and some looks as if it were partly stamped at different times.
Thank You
Kilroy
