Picked up this container today. Does anyone know what it contained?

Looks like a container that might have originally held ammunition for armoured cars / AFV. If you could post the container model number someone might be able to tell you more. The Royal Observer Corps stencil probably just means that someone in that organisation acquired it for their own detachment's use or perhaps it was issued to the ROC with aamunition inside that was specific to their purposes.
 
I think that is the container for the three discharge Nuclear warning signal... I will see if I can dig up a further reference!

This consisted of three aluminium tubes mounted on a tripod stand with a remote firing cable. They were deployed from the ROC observation posts as needed and fired from inside the post on receipt of a 3 minute warning...!
 
Looks like a repurposed 30mm Aden ammunition tin.
