Wood case for 7.7cm Cannon, German Model 1916 7.7cm ?????

I picked this up doday, it only makes sense to me if it is for the separate loading M1916 7.7cm German field gun.
Is this what it is for? I presume casings? I would like to know what the top looks like. I do not have a casing to try in it for size.
Any help with this is appreciated.
Inside diameters; 9 1/2" - 24cm deep, 15 3/4" - 38.5cm length, 7 5/16" - 15.5cm across.
Outside dimensions; overall length including handles 21" - 53.5cm, overall width 8 1/2" - 21.5cm.

In my opinion, it is an infantry ammunition box for 1440 pcs of 7.7mm infantry cartridges for the Bren machine gun ( PM.Bren ) .there are two words that confirm that it is Yugoslavia:1) ,,zrno,, 2 ) piece ,,komada,, 3) ,,Metak,, If I expand it to others, this phrase also belongs to cartridges because the Bren in 7.7mm caliber was also exported.
