Hi All,
A friend of mine is looking for a article and photos regarding the Mustard Gas shells found at Bramley a few years ago. Can anyone point him in the right direction.

Thanks

Try Basingstoke Gazette.
I lived at Basingstoke & worked at Bramley on occassion.
Most of the land around there is/was MOD from before WWI

The dumps uncovered after some parcels of the land were sold off were post WWI munitions as I understand it.
Bramley Grange still stands & is used as an MOD property. There was also one of the last sole MOD rail lines/branches through The Grange site. Not sure about now.
My subsequent wife worked at an industrial site on one of the areas cleared & friends bought a house built there.
There was a lot there & it is believed more are still there!! As an aside it wasn`t just mustard gas cannisters & rounds but also lots of `regular` ordnance including thousands of mills bombs.
Records were very vague.
As with many post WWI & WWII sites it was never foreseen that the population boom post 1946 would lead to MOD lands being sold for commercial & domestic use. Old airfields being a good example as many bomb dumps were just bulldozered over - leaving the contents only a few meters down!!
There`s been a few of us wanting to go & dig up around Lasham airfield as I knew one of the locals that saw where the Canadians & Yanks put everything!!
Including brand new Griffin & Merlin engines still in crates - but I digress!!
