Austrian cases are not that common in the UK and I have not found a 10cm M10 mountain gun case before. What also caught my eye was the engraving, which for me, indicates it was a souvenir of the campaigns in Palestine or Iraq in WW1. Having looked at various lists of German and Austrian guns exported to Turkey there is mention of Austrian weapons, but nothing specific about this particular weapon. However, I have seen a picture captioned Austrian mountain Howitzer division number 36 lent to support the Turkish Army with M10 10cm guns. The case is 88mm long, rim 118 and mouth 110mm, I suspect the primer has been found and fixed in place during the trench art process. Pictured alongside an 18pdr case which has the same Islamic style decoration. Just an interesting item!
