WW1 French 80 mm shrapnel (markings etc.)

My latest acquisition is this french 80 mm shrapnel shell M 1895 from or before WW1. Can someone tell me more about the markings, color etc.? I found one pic in my documents, which shows it black painted with a red head.

Nice condition.

For a real oldie that shell is in very good condition with no signs of rust pitting at all-excellent photo's also Der_Feldgraue

Hi Jens, I didn't think that was the m1877. At any rate nice shell. Those French spiral fuzes certainly look better when sitting atop a shell. Great find my friend...Dano
