WW2 Bofors case stamped 40/56

A new pick up is this 1943 dated British Bofors cart case made by P & S (I don’t know who that is), stamped 40/56. I’ve never seen that on a WW2 Bofors case before. After the introduction of the 40 x 365 L70 cases in the early 1950s, the 40 x 311 cases were referred to as L60 (the British/Commonwealth guns were actually L56) to differentiate, and the guns known as 40/60. But there was no need to differentiate in 1943. Does anyone know why this was done or seen it before?

Looks like the "40/56" part of the stamping was done separately post war.

Definitely post war, I guess 56 is the year?
