WW2 No 36 Grenade Question;

This has the standard red Xs and green band. But on the filling hole
there is a tan-ish coloured paint. What does this indicate? I haven't found
another like it online. These are the best images I can provide at the monemt.

The filler plugs of British (and Australian, NZ, South African) No.36 grenades were cemented in place and then painted over with Pettman cement. It appears some Canadian grenades used a different sealant, possibly a shellac or gum arabic based varnish. Or being Canadian, maybe maple syrup...

The image shows a British WWII No.36 with the classic red Pettman cement sealant over the filler hole and boss. Other sealants were available depending on the country of manufacture.
