WWI Ground Maxim Machine Guns

Dead or captured MG

dwmimages (136).jpg

Although the German machine gun crews took many many photos, at the time, of themselves, more than any other country - the second most common period image is of knocked out MG posns or fatal casualties.

Captured MG by the French

Considering the plentiful supply of captured ammunition it was very common to use captured weapons against the original owners.

More Patriotic MG related postcards

Like most combatant nations national artists were 'mobilised' to paint patriotic imagery. The 'colourisation' of photographic imagery was also common.

Mg08/15

Another great view of a 5 x man 08/15 gun team, with 2 can be seen with 'artillery' lugers. Always good to see the section commander has not messed around with his bino's.

Great photo depicting the 'immediate' accessories required! For original user and modern collector

Section then company or in German MGS and MGK, although some Germans have told me MGA maschinengewehr abteilung is another term for section.

MG Collectors dream

There are some great photos of captured wpns dumps. In modern money a large fortune there!
