WWII US Mark 9 Depth Charge recent acquisition, parts needed...

I recently picked up this WWII US Mark 9 Depth Charge. Not normally my area of collecting, but I thought it was so cool that I had to have it (although I think I paid way too much). I was not even aware these "teardrop" shaped depth charges existed during the war, I've only ever seen pictures of the cylindrical Mark VII charges.

When it arrived I was very surprised at how large and heavy it is. I have no room in my collection room for it at the moment, but some day it will make a great base for a table.

The charge is missing the cover and it's pistol. Has anyone ever seen either of those come up for sale anywhere? I searched the web but could not find record of either being sold.

Depth charge pistols and boosters are very hard to find. It took me many years to find one for my Mk6 DC.

If you don't mind a place filler until a real one comes along, a company in MA made a bunch of replica end plates that simulate the pistol made from a durable hard plastic. These were made to outfit a large number of incomplete depth charges on the museum ship USS Slater in Albany, NY. They made extras and I bought some as recently as 4 years ago. Not sure if they still do but drop me a PM and I'll get you their contact info. They were around $35-$40 per pair and come with properly colored hex bolts to attach them.

PLAN B: They make a superior umbrella holder. This MK9 MOD4 depth charge case lives just inside my front door and the umbrellas have never fallen over..........
If anyone has a cover for the filling hole, I would be most interested!

Well except we hardly get any rain where I live. :tongue: But seriously, nice example, thanks for posting Pat. I figured there has to be a few more out there. I saw a couple on the US Militaria Collector Forum, was yours one of them?

Last year I sold a inert pistol to this, DC. I also, at one point had a set of the plastic reproductions, and they were incredibly well made and detailed.

Darn, I'm a year too late. :tinysmile_cry_t: But at least now I know that they do come up for sale on occasion.
