Cutaway model of a Yugoslav BR Sp M94 CS tear gas grenade. The grenade consists of two trapezoid embossed plastic halves, glued together. The lower half is black, the upper half is red. The upper half has a threaded hole in top to receive the M75 striker release fuze. The red upper half colour depicts this is a tear gas grenade.
The grenade body is filled with CS powder (white). Around the detonator a hand moulded charge of 4 gram (0,14 ounce) of PETN (pink) is placed, small enough in diameter however to allow it to be stuck through the threaded hole for the fuze in the grenade upper body. I know it is hand moulded as I saw an x-ray picture clearly showing the shape is irregular.
A simmilar grenade exists with a full black or olive green plastic body, in that case it is an defensive fragmentation grenade.
The UBR M75P1 fuze is a so-called Mousetrap type fuse. Before throwing the grenade, the safety pin is removed and the spoon is held pressed against the body. When the grenade is thrown, the spring-loaded firing pin rotates in the primer, pushing the spoon away. The primer ignites the pyrotechnic fuse, which burns out after 3 to 4.4 seconds and ignites the detonator.
The fuze weighs 57 grams.
Data:
Complete length : 111mm (4,37 inch)
Length grenade body : 83 mm (3,27 inch)
Diameter grenade body : 57 mm (2,24 inch)
Diameter Base : 30 mm (1,18 inch)
Complete weight : 135,3 grams (4,77 ounce)
Weight CS charge : 45,76 grams (1,61 ounce)
