Yugoslavia sub-cal for the 120mm M63 Mortar.

This sub-cal for the Yugoslavian 120mm mortar seems a bit unusual.
References on internet and UXO mention a 24mm diameter sub-cal round. This one is 30.5mm diameter.
It looks like the M52 shown but is larger. Do 2 different diameter M63 mortars exist or is that an error in dimensions?

It is aluminium with a steel nose, firing pin etc. 250mm long and 30.5mm diameter.
4 holes in tail and looks like it should have a clip on the tail end that is missing.

Clearly stamped BM-120, M63. 2nd line looks like TK MO? 6801 BK ??
Any information is welcome for correct ID.

Hello,
You have a training sub-caliber projectile used with sabot 120mm M63.
The 24mm projectile is for 60mm and 82mm M62 mortar.

Thanks for that information. It seems odd that they used 2 different diameter projectiles.
Note that the UXO page mentions 24mm for the 120mm mortar too. Wrong information?

Hi ron3350,
the projectile minting is in the letters of the Serbian alphabet.
The first line is stamped VM 120 M63 which means :
VM (Vezhbovna mina) - TRG mortar shell
120 - caliber (mm) - The projectile as part of TRG MSh
M63 - Model 1963
The second line is stamped TK MOL6801 VK which means :
TK - unknown
MOL - code of manufacturer
68 - year of production
01 - production series
VK - unknown

Best regards
Bruno
