War n Peace show

My War and Peace stuff. A great three days, and good to meet more Forum members. Thanks Paul & Mick for everything, especially for letting me sleep in your tent after I missed the last train home on Thursday night - thanks Martin for loan of the blanket for what would have been a cold night. And thanks to the German guys for the beer.

No worries Tony. :)

I just spent the better part of an hour going over this thread. How I wish I could have been there. Ordnance, partying and camping. what could be more perfect. As far as the pricing goes I just say "what aint high these days" so either you pay or you don't play. Maybe I will be able to get over there in the next few years after tying up some loose ends over here. Looks like many had a ton of fun. By the way, the relic stall would have been my favorite! But that's me.................Dano

Hi pzrg40,

You are course totally right on the use of KwK's in ad hoc defensive positions, especially as the military situation deteriorated towards wars end. Necessity being the mother of invention and all. Though I can find no documentary evidence I would imagine percussion priming would have been much prefered to electical in these applications. Having a reliable external electical source would be an unnecessary complication.
Enclosed photo of the neck arrangement on Pzrg 40 case.

Regards

Hi Paul,
nice bit of kit there, saw the glass thingy, was tempted but its not my thing.
However, i see you got some cloth tape for early Brit grens. Is it 4 weave or 6? Early Brit was 6 weave so i believ, probably near impossible to get nowadays. Good find.

My Beltring Bits

By the way, the relic stall would have been my favorite!

It wasn't a bad stall. I've bought items from them before off their website. At the show i bought one of the brass safety clips for 18pdr cases still with the original paint on (and plenty of somme mud!) for just 1 :tinysmile_twink_t:

The other pieces are; 1916 13pdr case, 1918 13pdr9cwt case, 1905 18pdr case, 1917 18pdr shrap shell with canadian No.80 fuze, three relic 13pdr shrap shells (one shorter than other two? Does anyone know if there were different length 13pdr shrap shells?) & three WW1 primers.

Beltring

Just returned on Monday after Belters. Had an excellent response from collectors to my display. Had LOADS of Small Arms Repairs on site.
Very gratifying & humbling from the positive reaction from enthusiasts & collectors. Also the Public were very interested.
The only Blight on the whole event was I had a brand new 9x9 Tent stolen from my pitch area. I had gone down & roped off my pitch & erected the tent to save me another job upon arrival proper on the following Sunday.
My Mate who was camped opposite, phoned me on the Friday & enquired if I had been down on Thurs evening. I replied in the negative, & he said my tent was gone! Thieving scum! I was not the only one.Another Hapless chap had a 12 x12 pinched after they were unloading thier vehicle.
These two scroats walked by & picked up the bagged tent & ran with it. The guy gave chase, but they ran over a deep stream & kicked the boards into the stream to prevent the guy getting them. They obviously knew the location well. But other than that, I enjoyed my time there. Only met up with Chris from BOCN who very kindly lugged around a 120mm Recoiless round for me to deliver it at the display! Thank you Chris! He now has 4 foot long arms! It would appear that most of the membership that attended Belters had a good time & went home with some good hauls!
Cheers All! Mike
