you couldn't do any better than Ordnance Archives's individual studies of British Ammo. The art work of John Dempsky is amazing, for both accuracy and detail - see attached. I doubt they are in print these days. The attached photos are from the booklet on 25pdr ammunition.

I remember a lot of dark green 25 Pr HE projectiles being made at ROF Birtley...... for S Africa I was told. I understood there was an embargo in place at the time. I also remember a firm in Birmingham making 81mm Mortar bodies....also for S Africa.
