Hi,

A new rare find, this french ammunition 37mm M1902 for naval cannon.
Dated 1937 and 1939.

The projectile is quite strange, stamped : mle16 , then mle31...:banghead:

Flo'

Hello,

I assume it's a 202mm case.

The round is an A.P. 16 ("boulet modle 1916")

Regards.

I have added images to the post.
The Mle 31 is made to accept a screw in tracer unit, likely for night firing practice, a Mle 31/16 would seem to indicate the solid shot that won't use a tracer. In the case both look identical so this is a way to tell which is which. These are for subcalibre practice in larger guns. These will be Navy projectiles. The Army had them also, but I suspect those are unmarked WW1 stock or new late 1930s or 40 dated and will not have the model #, if I am thinking clearly on how to tell army from Navy as these were originally an Army projectile and WW1 use in 37x202 cases.

I believe that some of the manually-loaded 37mm cannon fitted to French aircraft in WW1 used this ammo rather than the more usual 37x94R.
