Wow that's great thanks for showing, did you restore it yourself ?
Cheers

Yes I did, it wasn't that bad as it still had the turning Marks on it which I've tried to keep , if I remember correctly it was pock pock marked for about 1\3 - 1/2 of its surface the trouble with it is that it sweats if the temperature changes too quickly.

That sounds as if it wasn't in to bad of nick then, I had thought of restoring it but have decided I will just clean up the drive band and wax it and leave it be.

I have a solid Practice ? projectile with a deep cavity in the nose and I put a rep.230? fuze in it.
My other one is a fired flat top practice or proof?
It is heavy and if it falls over so difficult to stand up due to the weight. No tapered nose to balance it.
It is too hard to move them and photograph unless I get many requests. No original paint.
Thanks for all the 8" photos and info. Ron.

8 inch as stated and possibly Australian. I will have to check any base marks as not listed in my files.
PLUS the job of brushing off the dust and cobwebs from 2 years. Then to do the photos. Will take a few days as busy with antique auctions on Saturday plus two ACCA collectors auctions where I placed $5K worth of bids. I hope I get them cheaper this time but who knows.
We were locked down for a week after some Melbourne Lepers spread corona but none in Ballarat,Vic so I may live for another few months!! I hope. Ron.

Yes it is in good shape and far from being a relic which was the reason I bought it, was in two minds about filler but was glad I did, I should have marked it up as well though.

Well you could always re do it and stencil it, mine I will keep it as found.

I do like the heavies so this thread got me. Thought I'd post a pic of the ones in my collection for members interested.
They include 8", 9.2" 12", 28cm, 21cm and a knackered floor.....
Cheers!

8" b.jpg8" Projectiles a.jpg8" c.jpgNo.230 Plug Firing Fuzes.jpgI finally weakened in more ways than one. I took photos of my 8" projectiles.
The Practice ? is stamped on the base: 8in. 1B/A P F S? M.O. 1942. I assume the S is at 3 o'clock under the pitting.
The projectile is solid steel with a 200mm deep nose cavity. I put a brass Rep 230 fuze in it.
I do not think that the black paint with a green band is correct. I think it should be a yellow band but left it as found.

The Proof? flat-top projectile is fired and shows the two drive bands and a feint 8" G on the base among the corrosion dints.
It is 460mm long and when I laid it down to photograph it, I needed help to stand it up again due to the weight and balance/strength needed to stand it up again.

The plug firing fuzes are Australian in both brass and brown coated steel.
Brass is stamped: P.I. A.N.^ No.230. G over V. 6/44. Who is the Australian maker G over V ?
The base hole is 71mm deep due to brass being heavier than steel. Weight is 2.047 lb (1042 grams).

Steel plug is stamped: PLUG FIRING MK 2. AN REP.230 ^. M.O. 6/55
The base hole is 53mm deep and weighs 2.05lb (1048 grams).

I must be getting old and weak. I know now why I like projectiles under 8".
