Backwards "Z" M10A2 Odd Fuzes

Here are pics of two kind of odd WWII M10A2 fuzes that where made by someone in the workforce at the Eastman Kodak company in WW2, that might have had a hangover, or did not know how to spell too well. :tinysmile_tongue_t:

Both these fuze handles have a backwards "Z" in the word Fuze. The fuzes both have the exact same lot number 93, they are both zinc coated and one was painted OD.

I would like to see if other members have one, pictures of one, or if you have seen any EK fuzes like this with a different lot number?? Maybe another maker with a backwards Z also is out there also?

If all the odd EK fuzes are the same lot number as these two, than they obviously caught the mistake before the next lot. I guess the dies for the stamps for these fuze handles /Spoons were done by hand and manually changed? Not sure, it would be interesting to know what the procedures for stamping these handles was, and how this could have happened.

Hi:
In the first pic you see the same way markings, but with an earlier lot number with right z, BUT M10A3. Next ones are the same lot than yours and last three are three different lots, my question is: how many grenades were made in each lot? :hmmmm:

Thanks for pics. Your 3 yellows have the same lot 93 as my fuzes, and then there are other 3 other lots. These 155 and 121 A, 125 A? lot numbers are stamped by hand also, not a machine. Interesting
How many in each lot? That is good question that I do not have the answer to. I would think though, it would be a round number like 1000 or 2500 in each lot maybe.

I think that what it comes down to is that some people spell it "FUZE" while others spell it "FUSE". My guess is that because of this, they decided to invert a Z to look like an S to avoid any confussion? Kind of like killing two birds with one stone. :hmmmm:
