BOCN Guess what it is

It has already been stated twice that it is a projectile. I'll say between 76mm and 130mm. Not NAVY!

recoiless rifle projectile, and only because its the only type i'm vaguely familiar with, i'd say Carl Gustav 84mm.

105mm flat head proof tank round with some sort of weird tail on it........I'm thinking its upside down in the photo?

Dave.

Dave (SG500) you are close enough. In the U.S., there are only four types of flat nose projectiles, antisubmarine, burning smoke, canister, and proof. This is a high pressure test proof projectile for a 105mm tank gun for a RAKE projectile (Rocket Assisted Kinetic Energy). The idea was to have a heavy metal dart with a rocket motor on the back to increase velocity. Since the 105mm Gun is loaded to max pressure, they need to work up the powder charge with the exact shape of the projectile in the case. This projo is solid aluminum, the bottom part machined in the shape of the rocket motor. I will add photos of motor remnants.

SG500 over to you.

Thanks!
Oh WOW, where do I get one of those??
Do any exist with the penetrator or did it get stuck at proof stage?
Try this one.
Dave.

The rocket motor parts that I have, use a solid piece of steel to represent the dart. It extends down the middle of the rocket motor. You can Google RAKE projectile for more info. I don't think they got past the experimental stage.

Thanks , Slick . Yes , they do look a bit like that but they are from a much older munition.

Thanks Siegfreid for speedy settlement; so I take the opportunity to show this one:

It's not a heating valve ... :tinysmile_twink_t:
