British bomb data plate question

I've recently come across this small rectangular brass data plate and I'm trying to identify it.

It has an RAF Stores Reference stamped on it, 12A/876, along with the King's Crown and other inspection marks. I've included a kidney-shaped RAF bomb data plate for comparison, as the markings look to be from a similar period.

Does anyone know:

  • What item 12A/876 refers to?
  • Is there a published list of RAF Stores Reference numbers that includes this code?
  • Would this plate have been fitted directly to a bomb, or to a component such as a tail unit, fuze/pistol, bomb carrier or other equipment?
  • Has anyone seen one of these before?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In RAF stores vocabulary, a "12" prefix denotes ordnance, anything from SAA to a Grand Slam bomb.

There are lists out there, but I don't think I've seen one for the "12" series - otherwise I would have copied it.

Hi Tim,

Ive got 12A as bombs live but hopefully I'll find out what the other numbers mean.

For example the kidney plate is 12A/1633 and from a HC 4000lb bomb.
