did they really show this to troops?

Even though this is an instructional film, there is alot of propaganda here: "our weapons are always superior"

MP 38 / 40 was designed by Heinrich Vollmer, not by Hugo Schmeisser. Why they always call it "the Schmeisser"?!

If American MGs were the best in WWII, why these guns are out of service for decades? And the German MG-42 design is still in service all around the world (somewhat modified and re-chambered)?

Yep fully aware of this...hence I put it in the 'funny stuff' section!....if we had a fairy tale section I would have put it there :bigsmile:

your own army still uses the MG-42 in 7.62mm as the MG3,the U.S and UK 7.62mm MG is based on it,so that speaks for itself

Yeah, it is a bit complicated with "our" MGs.
MG1 = Post war manufactured MG-42 in 7,62x51 NATO
MG2 = Wartime produced, re-chambered to 7,62x51 NATO
MG3 = New manufactured and modified MG1

English Wikipedia offers a pretty good lowdown on the MG3.

In the Bundeswehr we still have some old MG2, remanufactured to MG3. ("MG2" punch mark on the receiver is crossed out and a new "MG3" mark is stamped aside). So these are in fact WWII vintage. There are rumors that some of them still have some WaA stamps, but I have never seen such stamps on these remanufactured MG2 myself.
