Although, just one,of the many hazards of trench life during WW1,
apparently from the air,British frontline trench latrines looked just the same as the small emplacements dug to site trench mortars. So,poor old Tommy,
answering a call of nature in the cold light of dawn,in a nice, freshly dug
latrine, could easily find himself on the receiving end of incoming German
artillery fire. This must have had a decidedly laxative effect, and would have
really added to the "joys"these lads had to contend with!!!!
