Japanese booby trap fuse

Hi All,
With all the help on my last fuse, I could do with some help with identifying this one. I have had it sometime, it came in box with japanese gas mask, previous owner knows nothing about it.
The kanji appears to say "safety spigot" Which when you think about it, is fairly obvious.
I can not find any reference to it.
Cheers
Russell

Hi spitfire-01,

Just checked some of my reference material and it looks like what you have is the top half or I should say the safe half of a Mechanical Pull Igniter. This srewed onto the primer and detonator. Your one is slightly different to the one in my references and isn't internally threaded but slips on and held secure by a pin as evidenced by the hole in the side.

On taking a closer look at the photo it looks as if there is a spring inside but not a firing pin so that rules out the igniter.

Try posting it in the following forum which has a very broad base of expertise concerning Japanese Ordnance and Militaria;

They will be only too happy to help you out and at the same time a few of the members might be able to translate the tag for you.

Cheers,
BOUGAINVILLE

The translation says safety spigot, it came with a gas mask, from your picture it does not appear to contain a firing pin - why are you calling it a booby trap fuze?

Hi Bougainville,
I have taken it apart (see photo) It uses a ramp trip to fire the pin down into the ignitor. The firing pin has a chisel end to it.
Like you the closest I can find is the mechanical pull ignitor, but the internal construction is different.
Cheers
Russell
