We used to have the odd little fat bodied spiders in our house but for the past few years we have been colonised by some long legged spindly ones that have tiny bodies and leave string-like threads, quite annoying. They are good runners and can abseil very well too. They probably got into the house via the attic.

We had those in our garage when we moved here. However they have gradually colonised the entire house. I even found one in my locker at work once, I do wonder if it was a stowaway in my rucksack.

According to google, the name for them is cellar spiders.
