After seeing the beautiful cutaway job mr.fuze performed on his M39, I thought the group might enjoy seeing a whole, inert example of this scarce U.S. fuze.

I'm going to bump this one since we are finding fired specimens here at the job site I'm on. What is the pub that this is in or could someone provide a copy of it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce.

Here is all the information printed on the cover of the reference from top to bottom: BOOK 101 - FIELD ARTILLERY - AMMUNITION - THE EQUIVALENT OF SPECIAL TEXT NO. 89 - PREPARED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE CHIEF OF FIELD ARTILLERY AT THE FIELD ARTILLERY SCHOOL 1932.

The 139 page book was published by: PRINTING PLANT, THE FIELD ARTILLERY SCHOOL - FORT SILL,OKLAHOMA - 1932.

I purchased my copies from eBay and I still see them come up for auction every now and then. Let me know if I can provide any other specific information.

Randall, Thanks. We are finding it here on the East Coast. The only other data I had on the fuze was anecdotal from someone who read the Ordnance Minutes reports which that stated the fuze was fielded but quickly pulled because of premature detonations. Any truth to this that you know about? Thanks again, Bruce.

Hello Bruce,

The reference publication does specifically mention that the M-39 PD fuze "is standard for use ONLY with the 75mm HE shell,M-41". The short length, boat-tailed HE M-41 projectile was itself ONLY used in the U.S. 75mm pack howitzer, M-1.

I've included a photograph of the M-41 projectile and the "TABLE OF PERMISSIBLE FUZES" from the publication.

I've not come across any information regarding possible M-39 premature detonations.
