Can anyone explain please what the American WW2 'Mechanical Initiating Device Unit for Fountain' is.
I suspect something in the flare, leaflet or container opening departments but I cannot find it in my reference books.

Many thanks

Hi Bonnex
Have a look at "The Plumber's Kitchen" by Donald B. McLean. I think pages 86 to 92 are what you are looking for. It seems that they tried various electrical and mechanical initiators for the project.
Fountain Charge picture for information.

I found a few more pages of the report if anyone is interested, but unfortunately this is all I have - Does anyone have a complete copy, as it would make interesting reading.
